There are few places where you can better reconnect with nature than the forests, deserts, mountains, beaches and waterways of the U.S. In fact, stunning wilderness paths, trails that follow old rail tracks, tranquil lakes and secluded bays are among the nation’s greatest assets. Or simply spend a night camping in a National Park.

FALL FOR A RIOT OF COLOURS Across the U.S. spectacular autumn foliage presents as a riot of gorgeous colours. Take a road trip to see kaleidoscopic displays of russet, orange and gold light up the mountains and valleys of the New England states– but you can also find amazing leaf-changing action in states like New York, Georgia, North Carolina, Arkansas, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Colorado and Oregon and others.

Experienced mariners and beginners alike

will enjoy exploring

CHESAPEAKE BAY from the ‘Sailing Capital of the U.S.’, ANNAPOLIS . Maryland’s nautical city offers boat tours, sailing courses and paddling through scenic tributaries. The largest group of freshwater lakes on earth, AMERICA’S GREAT LAKES – Superior, Michigan, Huron, Erie and Ontario – are a magnet for nature lovers, who can cycle, canoe, kayak or cruise their shores, inlets and islands.

A WALK IN THE WOODS The Appalachian Trail stretches across 14 states, from Springer Mountain in Georgia to Mount Katahdin in Maine. ‘Thru-hikers’ take five to seven months to walk its 2,200-mile length, but dip in for a day to get a taste of one of the world’s most epic hiking routes. STRIKE GOLD IN THE SIERRA NEVADA American history and nature combine in California’s Tuolumne County. Gold Rush towns like Groveland provide friendly hotels and hearty meals after a day exploring tranquil Hetch Hetchy Reservoir in Yosemite National Park, or hiking and skiing in the High Sierra. The rush to strike gold may be over but Tuolumne’s natural treasures remain.

“Washington’s North Cascades boast more than 300 glaciers, alongside ancient forest with towering evergreens and incredible waterfalls and around 140 back- country campsites”

BLAZE A TRAIL IN CAPE COD Ride, walk or run through six Cape Cod towns as you follow the Cape Cod Rail Trail. There’s plenty to see along the 25-mile trail, with state and national parks to visit along the way. Short side trips on roads lead to national seashore beaches including Coast Guard Beach at the end of the Nauset Bike Trail in Cape Cod National Seashore. A MONUMENTAL JOURNEY An iconic symbol of the American West, the sandstone towers that are scattered across Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park have featured in many Hollywood films. Learn about them on a guided jeep tour of the 17-mile loop road from a Navajo guide, or enjoy a talk about the constellations under the stars. a twinkling night sky.
